Basic Rug Care
Basic rug care maintenance is vital to its beauty and longevity.
- Washable rug care – Verify with the label that your rug is washable. Prior to washing take the rug outside and thoroughly shake out the loose particles. Then wash according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually this is in warm water (90-105 degrees) using a mild detergent. Tumble dry on the lowest heat setting.
- Beating Larger Rugs – This can be laborious process but necessary for proper care and maintenance of your large rugs. Roll them up and take them outside, shake them out. Then drape the rug over a strung line and beat out the dust and dirt. Next roll it up and bring it back inside for a thorough vacuuming to get out all the particles that were not released. If the rug is labeled Dry Clean Only, it needs to be rolled up and taken to your cleaners. Call your area cleaners before you leave to see which business does carpet cleaning as not many of them do. You can save yourself the time and hassle by calling our Area Rug Experts at Green Leaf Chem-Dry at 561-403-3977 to schedule an appointment to come and professionally clean your rug.
- Vacuum Area Rugs – Rugs with fringe require a special vacuuming technique. Using gentle suction, begin at the center of the rug and work out toward the edges being careful not to catch the fringes in the beater bar. After this is completed, lift up the edges and vacuum underneath the fringe.
- Special care requirements for Oriental, Turkish and Persian rugs – To properly clean and protect these rugs follow all manufacturer’s specific care instructions or use a professional cleaning service that offers experts in these types of rugs. Fringe must be handled gently. Use professional cleaning exclusively for antique heirloom rugs.
